튀니지: 인민혁명(#4)

2011, Jan. 14: A first great victory(*) for the...

TUNISIAN PEOPLE'S REVOLUTION

For the first time in the modern Arab history a popular uprising toppled a dictatorship!!

Massive street protests - incl. almost daily fierce street battles resisting the bloody state terror(more than 80 protesters were killed by the "security forces") - over unemployment, mass poverty, corruption and political oppression forced (ex)President Ben Ali to flee the country Friday night after 23 years of iron-fisted rule.

Here just a few impression from Tunis, last Friday afternoon:

* An activist of the Tunisian Communist Workers' Party said y'dy: "We, the people of Tunisia, won a battle! But the war against exploitation and oppression isn't over! The revolution must continue until we'll achieve a liberated society!!"

[12.31] 포토'뉴스'(^^)

Last Friday (New Year's Eve) S. Korean newspapers (JoongAng and Chosun Ilbo, but also Hankyoreh etc.) favoured us with a very special feat of journalism:

"The Dear Leader Opens a Wardrobe"

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is pictured comfortably opening a closet with his left hand, despite reports that he had difficulty using his left hand after a stroke, in video footage released by the Korean Central Television, Dec. 29. On this day during a formal visit to a construction site along the Daedong River of apartments for artists in Pyongyang, Oct. 8, Kim examined their closets. (Yonhap News Agency via Hankyoreh)

[11.27] '전국'노동자대회

Saturday(11.27) afternoon in Ulsan: 5000 workers (well, a few days ago KCTU called for a "national workers rally"!!) and some supporters demonstrated their solidarity with the strike of Hyundai Motor's 'irregular' workers...

[11.6/7] (전국)노동자대회

Y'day evening/night(*) and today afternoon thousands of S.K. (incl. migrant)workers celebrated their struggle against exploitation and opression in 2010... Simultaneously the rallies marked the beginning of the Anti-G20 Struggle Campaign.

Yonhap reported a short while ago the following: Just days ahead of the G-20 summit in Seoul, tens of thousands of South Koreans rallied in the capital on Sunday, opposing the ratification of a free trade deal between their country and the United States and urging the government to improve labor rights. The rally, which marked the 40th anniversary of the death of a prominent labor activist, drew 40,000 workers and activists according to organizers...

[10.30] 비정규직철폐! '전국'노동자대회

Despite the ongoing - and ahead of the G20 Summit (Nov. 11~12 in Seoul) partly increasing - repression against trade union/strike activities(*) only a small number, according to KCTU 4000 workers, followed a call for the "National Mass Protest Day" of irregular workers, held y'day afternoon/evening in downtown Seoul:

* Today's Yonhap reported about a current disturbing example the following:
A branch leader of the Korean Metal Workers' Union (KMWU) is in critical condition after setting himself on fire to protest against the police's attempt to arrest him amid a sit-in strike at the Korea Electronics (KEC) factory, police said Sunday.

Kim Jun-il, a KEC employee and the KMWU branch chief of Gumi, 261 kilometers southeast of Seoul, poured inflammables onto his body Saturday night when police officials stormed into the factory to arrest him with a warrant soon after the union and KEC management failed to narrow differences over the new union payment system.
