Without any possible communication or deliberation process?for the public, the Korean government went on in Seoul from July 10 to 14 with the second round of negotiation for a Korea-USA FTA.
With great police force, the government aggressively suppressed the anti-FTA press conference that was to be held the first day of the negotiation.
It is really an irony when one thinks of president Ro, Mu-Hyun regime's slogan: "Participative Government"
By luck, some public broadcasts expose the excessively hurried aspect and the disadvantages of a K-U FTA and various civil organizations are exposing similar aspects through diverse media, making grow in Korean society the opposition to the agreement.?
During the second round of nego, every social sector such as the peasantry, the labour, regular and irregular labour, the press, medical professionals, etc, created a united front against FTA. They engaged in diverse direct actions and ways of expression, including artistic performances going on during a "100 Hours Relay."
Korean media cultural actitvists broadcast live through the Internet, guerilla style, all these field developments. Although it is regrettable that these alternative boradcastings reach only a small number, we hope to show that it is possible to appropriation for ourselves these new media.
Now, we would like to let you know more precisely about the content of these negotiations that progress despite the massive resistance in Korea.

Although, to USA's discontent, the negotiation about Korean drug price policy were halted the last day of this second round, the negotiations of 14 out of the 18 points were nevertheless completed.
(As a strong basic framework has been established during the second round of negotiation,) We can expect more concrete settlements will be achieved during the third round of nego, which will be held beginning Sept 4 th in the USA
The second round of nego just finished, but our resistance against the FTA just begins!?
Here are briefly some highlights of our Five days struggle during the Second round of Negotiations.
41 workers from Orion Electronic union, Lake Sid Union, and Ki-Ryung union
occupied the rooftop of Donga Press center on July 12.
They dropped a banner claiming "Stop the K-U FTA" and occupied the rooftop 11 hours.
?Our reality is that anyone at any moment can become in the difficult situation of an irregular worker without social protection. And FTA increases this danger.
We support the labor workers on the roof top.


On the same day, in spite of heavy rain, over 50,000 gathered together in the middle of Seoul to express the opposition of the people against FTA. Even in the Korean town of New York city, people gathered against the FTA.?
On July 13, about 17,000 press workers declared a strike and held an anti-FTA rally. They performed funeral services for the FTA. The dentistry and medical professionals, christian groups, and all kinds of people also claimed their opposition to the FTA.

The Korean people confront the danger of a FTA and must fight against it for them and the sake of their future. In front of this aggressive expansion of a system based on capital (money) called the neo-liberal globalization and which is an underlying single problem, from all parts of society people realize that we cannot but fight together against it.?
