본문

인간은 원숭이와 비슷할 때부터 많은 단어를 만들어 왔고 지금도 만들어 내고 있다. 모든 단어들은 상대적 단어가 있고 그 단어로 비교함이나 말 장난으로 그 의미를 더 할 수 도 있고 덜 할 수 도 있다. 이것은 어떤 개인의 인생 경험과 지식 차이가 다르고 말 하는 사람의 그것들이 각각 다르기 때문이다.

생지옥을 경험하였거나 그 처참함과 여기에 대한 분노를 마음으로 느껴보며 슬퍼하였든 사람의 천당에 대한 느낌은 이것을 모르고 하늘을 생각하는 것이나 그들의 꿈과 다르기 때문이다. 그러니 지옥도 천태만상이요 천국도 억만이라고 할 수 있다. 그러면 이 모두를 어떻게 하나로 만들 수 있을까? 여기에 나는 우리나라 대표 시인이자  철학자이신 봉래 양사언선생의 시로부터 찾아 본다.

“태산이 높다 하되 하늘 아래 뫼이로다

오르고 또 오르면 못 오르리 없건 마는

사람이 제 아니 오르고

뫼만 높다 하더라”

나는 여기에서 오른다고 하는 것은 더 밑으로 내려가 보아야 더 크게 올려 볼 수 있는 이상의 방향으로 본다. 겸손하여 지면 보이는 것들. 힘이 없어지면 보이는 것들. 미끄러떨어지면 보이는 것, 아프면 보이는 것들, 사랑 할 수 있는 능력이 사라지면 내가 그랬을 것, 여기에 세상의 모든 단어를 모두 다 열거 할 수 있다.

극과 극은 하나라고 막연한 말 들을 하고 있는 요지음 나는 극과 극은 깨달음의 도구이지 하나로 볼 수 있는 처세술의 도구는 아니라고, 그리고 격차의 진미는 각자가 찾아 내야 할 첫 의무 이라고 말 하고 싶다. 우리가 단어들을 하나로 묶을 수 있는 힘은 실천 속에서 온다. 태초 후에 몸바쳐 싸우시든 조상들과 후세대의 정의로운 싸움으로 오는 한말씀이다.
