Short before last year's Chuseok(2011.9.11~13) we got the order to leave "Cafe Mari"(occupied/squatted since beginning of June 2011 and the 'HQ' of the "Myeong-dong Tenants' Struggle Committee Against Forced Eviction", supported by "MDLF" and many other people).

Ilsan/Pung-dong, May 2004: Dozens of gangsters, hired by the construction company (mafia!), armed with fire bombs, iron bars, precision slingshots and special modified excavators attacked people who defended their homes against "redevelopment", i.e. forced eviction...
Yongsan 4-gu (2008/9): "security guards" (i.e. organized gangs of criminals, Yonhap called them "temporary police workers", hired by the construction companies, commissioned with the "redevelopment..") terrorized the entire neighborhood...
Myeong-dong "redevelopment" zone, spring 2011: Gangsters, hired by Daewoo Construction (mafia!) attacked several times "Cafe Mari"...

Only the day before y'day the "owner" of the small grocery (just round the corner of "Jeukseok Kimbab"/즉석김밥) said that the house where his store is located will be remaining at least for the next three years... But today the situation changed completely:
So, as you can see, the situation on the "frontline" becomes more and more unstably and dangerous for the remaining tenants in Myeong-dong's DISASTER area.

Y'ay(9.13) in the afternoon/evening we were supporting the Jaeneung Sit-in Strike Collective (now since 1361 days in strike!!). Here just some impressions of our common solidarity party to celebrate the end of Chuseok:

명동 '재개발' 구역의 시행사는 3구역 합의가 끝나자마자 추석임에도 공사를 강행하고, 야간작업으로 소음과 먼지가 심하게 발생해도 이에대해서 전혀 대책을 준비하지 않았습니다. 야만적 철거 재개발은 계속될 것이고, 우리의 투쟁도 더욱 강해질 것입니다.

용역깡패는 영어로 thug이 아니라 errand men이라고 합니다. 심부름꾼이라는 뜻이죠. 누가 보낸.기업이 thugs를 고용했다 하면, 원래 thugs가 있었고 그 thugs를 현장에 투입시켰다는 말인데, 이것은 범죄에 해당하고 그래서 멀쩡한 사람들을 투입시킨겁니다.

Reporting from Seoul — In South Korea, they're known as "errand men": hired street muscle who play often-violent mercenary roles in property disputes that law enforcement agencies refuse to handle.
Their ranks are filled by physically fit young men who, critics allege, lurk in the gray area of the law, using violence and intimidation to assert the will of clients such as landlords, businessmen and even the government .
"The government has realized that it's not a good idea to clash with everyday citizens over these profitable redevelopment projects, so they hire someone else to do the job," said No Gi-deok, president of the Korean Coalition for Housing Rights. "South Korea has a bad reputation over these forced evictions, and the government is just turning its head. It's absolutely embarrassing."
