WHy? Use reasons and specific examples to support your choice.
One's childhood is very important in that most of our personality is formed in early days of our lives. A child should have an opportunity to engage in various kinds of activities including sports, reading book, interacting with peer, etc. However, kids today are exposed to visual media such as video games or TV too early that they won't read as many books as children a few decades ago did.
In this sense, it would be great to choose story books as a gift for children. Story books including fairy tales make children imagine about the world they' ve never been. Although many great and interesting animation movies are available now, watching it directly on TV is one thing and picturing it on their own is another. The latter one is now too easily ignored by children today because they are more accustomed to the visual media than the printed ones.
When I was a child, my parents bought me a series of story books which contained Cinderella, the Aesop tales, the adventure Hucks, etc. There, in the book, were fancy illustrations which attracted my attention and especially, I was fascinated by the beautiful dresses and spectacular castle when I was on Cinderella story. I had an opportunity to imagine it in my head with the help of stories and illustrations in the book. Since I have enjoyed and been used to reading books from the early years, one of my favorite things to do now is to read novels, which gives me time to reflect on myself and think upon worlds around me.
To sum up, I think children today need to read more books than they do now. By reading interesting story books, they would end up feeling more friendly to reading books, which will be helpful for building up their imagining ability in turn.
