THAAD배치 결사반대(#22)

Last Friday(1.13): Korea Times headline reads as follows: Ban Ki-moon supports THAAD deployment (in S. Korea)

Yesterday's JoongAng Ilbo reported that the Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon threw his weight behind the installation of a U.S. advanced missile defense system on Sunday in a move to woo security-sensitive conservatives in what is seen as his journey toward the Blue House...

On the same day the Chinese Global Times published the following: Ban Ki-moon(...) is throwing his weight behind the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system on South Korean soil... Because of his previous role as UN secretary-general, he is expected to have more understanding over why Beijing and Moscow cannot tolerate any move to break the balance of the region... Once THAAD is set up, the current strategic balance among China, the US and Russia will be wrecked and the three sides will sharply confront one another. In that case, the Korean Peninsula will only turn into a zone filled with direct clashes of interests... South Koreans probably think that once Seoul actually sets the system up, China will find that nothing more can be done. Such thinking is too naïve. The THAAD installation in South Korea will pose a hazardous challenge to China's security and core interests. Beijing's stance on the issue can't be bargained over... Last Saturday(1.14) afternoon/evening(KST) in central Seoul: About 100,000 South Koreans braved biting cold to take to the streets to demand scandal-tainted President Park Geun-hye resign...

It was the 12th consecutive Saturday rally, which has been organized over an influence-peddling scandal centered on Park and her long-time friend Choi Soon-sil. With some 1,500 civic groups involved, the new year's second rally at Gwanghwamun Square - held with the mercury well below zero(-8°C/apparent air temperature: -15°C) - also called for the arrest of corporate leaders...

"Specter of military option for North Korea on the rise"(Asia Times, 1.05)

U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter vowed Sunday to shoot down any North Korean missile that flies toward the U.S. or its allies...(Yonhap, 1.09)

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry warned Tuesday that the U.S. could seek "more forceful ways" to affect North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's thinking if he persists in forging ahead with intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities...(Yonhap, 1.10)

Former US Secretary of Defense William Perry, one of the US’s leading realist advocates of dialogue with North Korea, suggested Washington should proactively attempt negotiations with Pyongyang, but also consider “Plan B” actions such as shooting down airborne North Korean missiles in case the talks fail...(Hankyoreh, 1.11)

And here you'll get NK's answer, via today's KCNA: It is the stand of the DPRK to steadily bolster up its capability for self-defence and preemptive attack, the pivot of which is the nuclear force, unless the U.S. makes a switchover in its hostile policy toward the DPRK, Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says in an article.

Noting that the self-defensive war deterrence of the DPRK provides a sure guarantee for peace and stability in the region and peace and security of the world, the article goes on:

It is the decisive resolution and will of the DPRK army and people to beat back the aggressors trying hard to stifle it with nukes, through their stronger nuclear strikes.

The DPRK has made its nuclear weapons smaller, lighter and diversified and is possessed of various type delivery means capable of making nuclear strikes at anywhere anytime.

Eye-opening events of bolstering up defence capability will take place in the DPRK one after another.

The U.S. would not be safe though it is more than ten thousand kilometers away from the DPRK. It will not be long before the DPRK's ICBM strikes terror into the hearts of the U.S. warmongers.

The U.S. is mulling frightening the Korean people through the UN "sanctions resolution", but nothing can match the mysterious might of the single-minded unity of all the service personnel and people of the DPRK and their self-development capability.

The world will get further confident that the DPRK will demonstrate its might as a nuclear power and military power in the East and that the DPRK's victory in the standoff with the U.S. is the ever-lasting tradition of the former.

Hey KimJU(you f*cking little fat bastard boy!!)... possibly you're misinterpreting the intentions by the U.S.A.!? They're not just talking about "UN 'sanctions resolution'" anymore... They're talking about "military options" against YOU!!

Eventually you've only ONE solution to survive...

[1.07] 11차 '범국민행동'

A thousand days after the sinking of the ferry Sewol, the disaster is still a controversy as survivors and victims' families say they continue to suffer as their suspicions remain unanswered. The sinking killed 304 passengers, most of them students of Danwon High School in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, on a school excursion. Nine passengers remain unaccounted for and the Sewol still lies on the seabed off the southern Jin Island...(source: K. Times, 1.09)

Therefore the first candlelight rally of the new year had been held in honor of the Sewol ferry disaster(aka Sewol Massacre). Hankyoreh reported last Friday(1.06): During a press conference(1.05 @KCTU's HQ in Seoul), the organizers of the rally (known as the Emergency Nationwide Campaign for the Resignation of Park Geun-hye) announced that the title of the 11th candlelight rally, which will be held on Jan. 7, is “Down with Park Geun-hye and Up with the Sewol Ferry.”

Last Saturday(1.07) afternoon/evening: Hundred of thousands of South Koreans took to streets across the country, demanding - once again - that scandal-tainted President Park Geun-hye step down. It was the 11th consecutive weekend rally, which first started on Oct. 29 over an influence-peddling scandal centered on Park and her long-time friend Choi Soon-sil... With some 1,500 civic groups involved, the first rally of the new year at Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square centered around the Sewol ferry, whose sinking off the country's southwest coast in April 2014 took the lives of more than 300 people, most of whom were high school students on a field trip... Holding placards critical of Park and lit candles, protesters demanded the immediate resignation of the president and the salvage of the Sewol, which has yet to be retrieved from under the sea. Organizers said about 600,000 gathered for the rally in central Seoul...

Similar anti-Park rallies were also staged in major cities across the country on Saturday, including Ulsan, Busan...
