Two days ago: When comrade Cha Gwang-ho, a dismissed worker at Star Chemical, decided to end his 408-day-long aerial protest atop a smokestack, it was an arrest warrant from the police that awaited him...
Today's Hankyoreh reported the following:
At 2 pm on July 8, around 600 workers gathered at the parking lot in front of the entrance to Star Chemical in Gumi(Chilgok County, North Gyeongsang Province)...
2 pm that day was when Cha Gwang-ho was supposed to come down from the 45-meter-high smokestack at the Star Chemical factory. He had climbed the smokestack and begun his aerial protest on May 27, 2014, asking for his job back.
408 days had passed since Cha had climbed the smokestack. No one had ever done an aerial protest longer than that - not in South Korea or anywhere else in the world(the full article you can read here)...
Here just some impressions, depicting the entire "event"(solidarity rally, coming down and the final stage: comrade Cha Gwang-ho, captured by the cops/here you can watch a summarizing video)...

In January 2013, Star Chemical Co., Ltd. shut down all operations at its factory in Gumi[Gyeongsanbuk-do(Province), South Korea], citing "poor business results". Some of these workers received compensation and settled with the company on May 26, 2014. Comrade Cha Gwang-ho was one of 11 workers who rejected the deal. The night after the "settlement" was signed, he climbed up a 45-meter-tall smokestack. Today, exactly 400 days passed since he started his sit-in struggle(*)...

Yesterday(6.27) afternoon in central Seoul: Members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions called for minimum wage to be increased to 10,000 won (US$8.90/current minimum wage: 5,580 won).
Actually the rally was planned(by KCTU) as a "national/central protest", but finally only 5,000(2,500 according to the cops) people participated(KCTU members: about 700,000/population of the Seoul Capital Area: approx. 25 million!!)...
Here some impressions(photographed by Choi Ji-eun), depicting the opening rally in front of Seoul Station(more detailed reports in Korean, incl. lots of pics you'll get here and here)...
