An association of progressive civic groups held a rally in front of the Le meilleur building in Jongno, central Seoul, where an estimated 1,500 participants called "No Trump No War."
They were protesting against Trump's visit, citing "the coercion of war weapons and trade demands."
"We cannot find a reason for Trump to come to Korea. Korea is under greater military pressure and is forced to purchase weapons," the association said.
"Trump is trying to strengthen the military alliance between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan, citing North Korea's nuclear threats, in order to contain China's influence in Asia. The Moon Jae-in administration must free itself from Trump's policy and take peaceful measures for dialogue."
