The SsangYong Motor chapter of the Korea Metal Workers’ Union(KMWU) has set up a memorial site for Kim Ju-jung since July 3. Kim took his own life on June 27 after a fierce struggle to be reinstated at Ssangyong Motor following an unjust mass layoff in 2009. The memorial has been set up in front of Daehanmun, the main gate of Deoksu-gung(palace) in central Seoul. Labor rights activists and civic demonstrators have commented that government inaction has indirectly contributed to the deaths of 30 workers since the mass layoff...(source: Hankyoreh, 7.14)

Since today(7.25) in the early morning(KST) a Buddhist ritual took place in front of the memorial site to pray for the reinstatement of the remaining 119 SsangYong workers, dismissed ten years ago. The ancient, traditional ceremony, led by a monk of the Jogye Order included 119(!!) bows and sermons...
