Few impressions from yesterday's Migrant Workers' "Mayday" Rally in front of Boshingak in central Seoul(more pics you can see here and here/related reports in Korean you can read here and here!)...
Last year 1,929 workers were killed by occupational accidents in S. Korea! Yesterday's KCTU rally in Seoul - of course it was overshadowed by the terrible "Sewol" sinking desaster, ten days ago - demanded tightened job protection laws and their strict compliance by the employers...
Today's Yonhap News reported the following: North Korea again denounced as fabrication a critical report by the United Nations on human rights violations in the communist country, calling it a U.S.-led attempt to undermine its political system, the state-run media said Tuesday. Pyongyang's dismissal of the report by the U.N. commission of inquiry (COI) came days after Michael Kirby, head of the three-member commission, once again called on the U.N. Security Council to refer the case to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
But Yonhap forgot to mention why M. Kirby, according to KCNA, is not "entitled" even to talk about the "nonexistent 'human rights issue of the DPRK'"... Because "Kirby... is a disgusting old lecher with a 40-odd-year-long career of homosexuality. He is now over seventy, but he is still anxious to get married to his homosexual partner"!!! (Ugh, yuck!)
And finally KCNA added: "This practice can never be found in the DPRK boasting of the sound mentality and good morals, and homosexuality has become a target of public criticism even in Western countries, too..."
Indeed, KCNA is right: Scores of Christian fundamentalists, Islamist radicals, far-right extremists(*) and neo-Nazis(**)... are fighting against homosexuality(etc.), to defend "sound mentality and good morals"!!

While the int'l media has been reporting from the very beginning about the "Sewol" disaster, incl. the (failed)rescue operations, in North Korea it took three days until it was mentioned. Two days ago(4.19) Rodong Shinmun published a short notice(see below) about the horrible tragedy. And while people from around the world are expressing their sympathy with the victims and their relatives... From NK: not a bit of compassion, not to mention an official message of condolence!
Today's DailyNK reported the following: North Korea has criticized the effectiveness of the official South Korean response to the sinking of the "Sewol," the passenger ferry that went down last week off the southwest coast of the Korean Peninsula en route from Incheon to Jeju Island with the loss of approximately 300 lives.
Chosun Central Television reported on the 19th that “rescue efforts are so slow that the hearts of the [ferry victims’] families are breaking.”
Quoting South Korean broadcaster MBC, the report further claimed, “South Chosun’s MBC news said that these kinds of large-scale disasters have been going on for decades, and that the families of those missing have been having sleepless nights. The authorities must recognize the depths of their sadness and rage."
Propaganda outlet Uriminzokkiri similarly reported that many in South Korea are unhappy with the “incompetent response of the South Chosun authorities” to the ferry sinking, telling of “strong criticism from every corner of South Chosun society that the government is not making any progress in rescuing [the victims].”
“All classes in South Chosun claim the responsibility for this incident lies fully on the incompetence of the current government. They are calling for the urgent passage of laws on ocean safety, including disaster information gathering, prompt response measures, strong command and strengthened supervisory systems…people are saying if [the government]listened then accidents like this wouldn't happen," the piece concluded.
Rodong Sinmun published a similarly critical piece on page 5 of its Saturday edition, declaring, "We live in a world where we cannot even send our children on a mathematics field trip."
North Korea's criticism is a broadly accurate reflection of widespread anger and deep sadness felt in South Korean society at the nature of the tragedy and speed of the rescue effort that followed it.
The "Sewol" tragedy takes another shameful turn. About 350 cops blocked today in the morning(KST) 100 victims' relatives from leaving Jindo 'cause they feared they would protest against the gov't(more detailed info, incl. a video report, you'll get here).
