Ten days ago, the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union(KTU) was deprived of its status as a legal union(here you'll get more detailed info).
Last Monday(6.23) Korea Times reported that the S. Korean 'state authorities' announced "stern action against KTU"! "Vice Education Minister Na Seung-il vowed today to deal 'sternly' with liberal teachers who join, what he referred to as, 'illegal demonstrations' organized by KTU".
But last Friday in the afternoon, despite the announced intimidation(here you'll get the latest news), at least 1,500 teachers rallied in front of Seoul Stn(a more detailed report, incl. lots of pics you'll get here) and demanded "STOP THE OPPRESSION AGAINST KTU!"...
Following a mass rally by teachers against the deregistration of the KTU, and strikes by healthcare workers against privatisation of medical service and Samsung service workers against repression and exploitation last Friday, about 10,000 KCTU members gathered yesterday afternoon in downtown Seoul(more detailed reports, incl. lots of pics, you'll get on LabourStart)...
...to call on the government to stop privatisation and deregulation, take responsibility for the Sewol ferry tragedy and finally just to step down(!).

...its next steps to fight for legality. According to the S. Korean media KTU promised an "all-out struggle against the gov't" to regain legal status, resp. until the following demands are met:
1. Withdrawal of the decision to turn the KTU into an illegal union!
2. Revise the current law on teachers' unions!
3. Implement a special law for the proper settlement of the Sewol ferry disaster!
4. Withdraw the nomination of Kim Myeong-soo as the new "education minister"!
