"We want to ensure the basic labor rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Korea and guaranteed by all workers. As many as 2.5 million special employed workers are not guaranteed basic labor rights."
"We don`t have any basic rights because we are not recognized as laborers because of Article 2 of the labor union law. We're stuck between the shipper and the carrier, so we can't get a proper fare. Therefore, they have no choice but to run at the risk of their lives in a speeding and overworked condition. Last year, 748 people lost their lives in cargo trucks. It is good for the people if excessive and speeding are eliminated. So the first step for safe roads is to guarantee the basic labor rights of special workers."

Y'day(4.13) afternoon(KST) in central Seoul: 20,000 'specially employed' (self-employed, dependent contractors, misclassified workers) KCTU members gathered to mark the 100th anniversary of the ILO with a call for ratification of ILO core conventions, revision of the Trade Union and Labour Relations Adjustment Act, Article 2 and guarantee of fundamental labour rights for all workers. Despite promises by the gov't to ratify ILO conventions, 'social dialogue' has left specially-employed workers out of the discussion, while employers and conservative forces call for weakening of labour protections...
