Since last Friday the cops blocked doctors and medical personnel of the Council of Humanitarian Practitioners from entering the protest site of the Korea Expressway Corporation(KEC) in Gimcheon. Here, in front and inside of KEC's HQ, striking tollgate workers are staging a sit-in struggle since almost 20 days to achieve direct employment contracts(background info you'll get here)...

Last Saturday(9.21) afternoon(KST) in central Seoul: Finally about 5000 S. Korean activists joined the Global Climate Strike. The "Climate Crisis Emergency Action" consisting of 330 civic, labor(incl. KCTU), environment, human rights and youth organizations held a rally, followed by a demo, to urge the gov't to take active measures. The day's event, timed with the "global climate strike" week, was designed to warn of a global warming crisis and encourage the attention of the government and citizens. The rally was attended by teenagers, religious people and other citizens, each carrying handwritten pickets in a recycled paper box...(source: KHMWU, 9.21)

Last month(8.31) KCTU reported the following: At the end of the 7 years’ struggle, the tollgate fee collecting workers won the court case and were recognised as ‘employees’ of the Korea Expressway Corporation. The Supreme court found the labour dispatch in the corporation is illegal and the workers should be regarded as the directly employed...
Ten days later KCTU wrote: Ignoring the Supreme Court decision that the labour dispatch in the Korea Expressway Corporation(KEC) is illegal and the tollgate fee collecting workers are employees of KEC, the CEO announced that only the plaintiffs of the lawsuit will be employed directly, but be allocated in other duties than fee collecting. The union members, who have maintained the KEC should implement the court decision in an inclusive way and all the fee collecting workers should be regularized, took the lobby of the corporation in protest...
Yesterday(9.21), to support the on-going sit-in struggle @KEC's HQ in Gimcheon, about 2,500 KCTU activists from all across the country - despite a looming typhoon - went there to demonstrate their solidarity with the tollgate workers' struggle.
