Day 2 of public sector precarious workers strikes, with strike rallies around the country. Today(7.03) in the morning(KST) Yonhap reported the following: Non-regular workers in the public sector are to stage a general strike nationwide on Wednesday under the orchestration of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), a militant labor umbrella group. Approximately half of some 200,000 non-regular public employees affiliated with the KCTU are expected to take part in the strike scheduled to continue through Friday, calling for wage hikes, abolition of discrimination and switching their status to that of regular workers. The strike by about 100,000 workers, who have secured the right to strike through votes, is to affect the operations of central administrative organs, local autonomous governments, public institutions and schools, according to the KCTU...(more you can read here)
A while later KCTU(*) stated(via fb): Over 100 thousand public sector precarious workers on strike in South Korea today. Despite government promises efforts to improve precarious workers conditions and provide job security have stalled. As a start the government must establish a bargaining table with unions. The main force today - education support workers are calling for elimination of wage descrimination and dignity and equality at work through granting them status in law as education sector public employees...

Since at least 10 days KCTU is preparing for a "general strike"(rally) by "irregular" workers in the public sector, planned for next week(7.03)...
Today's Yonhap reported the following: A major umbrella labor group said Monday it will stage a general strike next month to protest what it calls the liberal Moon Jae-in government's suppression of the labor sector. The announcement by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) followed the arrest of its chairman Kim Myeong-hwan on Friday on charges of orchestrating violent illegal rallies in front of the National Assembly. The arrest sparked a fierce backlash from the militant labor group, which said the Moon government ditched its vow to put priority on improving the lives of workers and instead chose to suppress the labor sector...(more you can read here)
