UPS workers in S. Korea were newly organised this year. The KPTU UPS Korea Branch has been trying for several months to reach a recognition agreement (basic agreement on recognition of the branch, guarantee of time off for negotiators and rules for collective bargaining) and move forward with collective bargaining, but management is avoiding real negotiations (surface bargaining) and engaging in unfair labour practices. Tens of thousands of members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) have called for guarantee of basic labor rights, denouncing the labor policies of the Moon Jae-in administration they had fiercely supported. The members of one of the nation's two umbrella unions held a massive rally on Yeouido in Seoul, Saturday, urging the government to abolish irregular and temporary positions and carry out chaebol reform. The union claimed around 100,000 people took part in the rally, which was also aimed at commemorating Chun Tae-il, a former worker at a garment factory who died in 1970 at the age of 22 after setting himself on fire in protest of the poor working conditions of garment workers...(source: K.
