Hankyoreh(11.4): South Korea and the US have decided not to hold Vigilant Ace, a joint air exercise, this year. This will be the second consecutive year that they skip the exercise, typically held at the end of the year. This year’s exercise hadn’t been formally announced, and now the two countries have apparently finalized their decision to suspend it...(more you can read here)
Today's JoongAng Ilbo: The U.S. State Department on Monday said next month’s annual U.S. combined aerial exercises with South Korea would move forward as planned, contradicting an earlier announcement from Seoul that the drills would be suspended to support diplomatic efforts with North Korea. However, according to the State Department, the drills will not be held under the name Vigilant Ace but instead will be conducted under the name “Combined Flying Training Event,” just as the allies did last year. The drills had been conducted under the name Vigilant Ace since their conception in 2015 until 2018...(more you can read here)
A big anti-government rally took place near the Blue House on Wednesday, as protesters gathered for the second time in a week to demand President Moon Jae-in to dismiss scandal-ridden Justice Minister Cho Kuk.... The Pan-National Alliance to Oust Moon Jae-in, the organizer of the rally, said it wants the resignations of both Moon and Cho... Last Saturday(9.21) afternoon(KST) in central Seoul: Finally about 5000 S. Korean activists joined the Global Climate Strike. The "Climate Crisis Emergency Action" consisting of 330 civic, labor(incl. KCTU), environment, human rights and youth organizations held a rally, followed by a demo, to urge the gov't to take active measures. The day's event, timed with the "global climate strike" week, was designed to warn of a global warming crisis and encourage the attention of the government and citizens. The rally was attended by teenagers, religious people and other citizens, each carrying handwritten pickets in a recycled paper box...(source: KHMWU, 9.21)
