Today "All Together" is beginning it’s forum against the war and so on...
In fact it’s necessary to discuss about strategies and tactics to create a peaceful society, but actually I’m not sure if this are the right strategies and tactics.
The situation in the Middle East of course is important, but I really don’t see the importance for the Far East, for S. Korea. First of all, we were not able to prevent the deployment of S. Korean troops to Iraq, and it is doubtful that we have the power to change it (DLP, KCTU and other “left” organizations... undoubted have no interest in this case, the experience was teaching us...) in the present time. And beside some small (“insignificant”) groups no one in S. Korea was trying to get in contact with ... groups, such as female liberation, or trade union organisations. I mean never I was reading something about it...
If I was reading well the last day’s S. Korean newspapers there could be a significant change in the N.K. political behaviour against the South (see what was happen in the last days since Sunday...). Am I right?
If I was reading well the DPRK has big problems after last “6-party-table-round”. In contradiction to the reports in the ROK the U.S. side see it more as a failure (read this).
So the DPRK must try to react for to prevent possible U.S. sanctions and what they did during the last days in the South... it was just clever and smart... But at least for the “left” in the South it must be a very strange challenge and we should react soon (until now I have no real ideas, but perhaps soon...).
How the North can react? To prevent U.S. sanctions they could move closer to the South and many people and groups/organizations here would like it... but some one is thinking about what’s on the end....?
This are just thoughts, but we should think about it very seriously, otherwise....
Soon it will be continued...
…was just strange and crazy.
First of all at least 1.600 riot cops were surrounding the Citizen Park (열린 시민공원), opposite of the Gyeongbok-gung (palace), just to take care that 6 Yangko players and about 60 kids don’t play revolution – ha, ha!
Actually the reason for the rally was to memorize the 4.19 uprising in 1960, when the democracy movement – mainly students from the middle class, because the children from workers and peasants were not able to study (their parents were just to poor) – was able to overthrow the Ree Syng-man regime (he was ruling the country since 1948 by a corrupt and anti-communist dictatorship).
But the main issue was not a possibly better democratization of S. Korea - the main issue was Tokdo (the big rock in the East Sea, also stressed by Japan). So, for example the representative of DLP’s (민노당) student group was just talking about the Japanese imperialism/militarism and of course the stone in the sea. Topic missed, sit down!
So, as I already assumed: just a newly kind of polit-trash. What a pity!
I guess she is sitting on...
...surprise, surprise - yeah, on 日本!!
LAST DAYS’ REPORT
Last Wednesday, March 2, in the early afternoon more than 100 street vendor activists and some supporters protested against the expulsion of street vendors from the area around LOTTE Department Store (LDS) in Myeong-dong (here you can read the article and see pictures about the rally and demonstration).PROTEST RALLY Against the oppression of street vendors Tuesday, March 8, 1 pm LOTTE department store Myeong-dong
Latest news: Last night/very early morning the sit-in struggle collective in front of LDS was attacked by criminal gangsters, hired by LOTTE group. The attack was backed by the riot cops. The latest about that you can see here, read here and here. JOIN TUESDAY'S PROTEST!! Like every Thursday evening on March 3 peace activists gathered in front of Kyobo B/D near Gwanghwamun to protest against the ongoing aggressions in Iraq and the participation of South Korean troops in that war crimes. The number of participants and also the performances were nearly the same like the weeks before. But on that evening there was one surprise: Kang Cheol-min, a former military service man, spoke to the audience (more pictures about the event you can see here). In November 2003, when the S. Korean government decided to send more additional combat troops to Iraq, Kang Cheol-min decided he just had spend some vacation days not to return to his army unit as a protest against the government’s plans. Some days after his birthday, on Nov 22, he was arrested and sentenced to one and half year prison. Now, last Thursday, in his speech - just some days ago he was released after spending one year and three month in prison - he thanked all his supporters for their solidarity, he promised never to give up his struggle against militarism and invited the audience for a kind of official “Welcome Ceremony” one days later. So on Friday about 20 people followed the invitation and joined together with Kang Cheol-min’s friends and relatives his coming back. After the “official” ceremony the participants had a nice get-together in an atmosphere of solidarity and a kind of unity until deep in the night. Meanwhile yesterday about 600 people (according to the Internet magazine Voice of the People - the reporter was not able to report personal, 'cause the lack of money) gathered in Pyeongtaek, a city south of Seoul against the relocation of USFK (United States Forces Korea) troops, still located in and north of Seoul. Since long time the citizens there are struggling against the troops already stationed there and of course they are also against the plan of relocation. Here you can read an article about yesterday’s rally and here about a struggle event last year. Here just some impressions of the last days by pictures:
LET’S FIGHT TOGETHER FOR A WORLD
WITHOUT EXPLOITATION AND OPPRESSION!
ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE, ONLY
IF YOU WANT AND FIGHT FOR IT!
착취와 억압이 없는 그날을 위해 투쟁
당신이 그걸 원하고 그것을 위해
투쟁한다면 다른 세상은 가능하다! 투쟁!
Today at 2 pm around 100 activists, mainly students, gathered near the US embassy to protest(for one hour) the in inaugural of the old/new US presindent Bush.
It is just pity that on every anti-war rally/demonstration less people are joining the protest!
