Recently, the United Nations published that North Korea’s food production is the lowest in more than a decade. An estimated eleven million people inside the country — nearly 43 percent - are undernourished...(more you can read here)

Today's DailyNK reported the following: Serious problems appear to be impacting North Korea’s food supplies in South Pyongan Province given that even members of the government – usually the first to receive food rations – have been unable to receive them, causing many government officials to stop working altogether. “Officials working for provincial party committees and offices in the cities and counties, along with those working in police and prosecutor’s offices, have been unable to receive regular food rations. This has led to a situation where less than 70% of government officials are actually coming to work – the first time this has ever happened,” said a South Pyongan Province-based source...(the complete report you'll get here)

PS. IMO it seems - if the report really reflects the current reality(??) - that South Pyongan Province(평안남도) is currently the best place(in N. Korea) to start an uprising(according to comrade Mao Zedong: "Resistance is justified!!")...

But, unfortunately(surprise, surprise..^^), the meeting never took place!

Therefore they(i.e. the dismissed Cort workers) issued y'day(3.12) at noon(KST) the following statement during a press conference:

...in thirteen regions around the country ahead of meeting of the ESLC(*) tomorrow. The ESLC, supposed to pass agreements to increase labour flexibility (expand flexible worktime system) and revise trade union law. Employers are calling for more restrictions on union activities and the right to strike and the govenment is saying accepting these demand are the price we have to pay for ratification of ILO Conventions 87 and 98. How can ratifying ILO conventions be about weakening labour rights!?!. This is just the start of KCTU's fight to stop this attack on workers and democracy.(source: KCTU via fb)

* Discussions on ratification of ILO conventions and revision of labour law are currently taking place in the Committee on Improvement of Labour Relations Law and Practice of the Economic, a subcommittee of the Social and Labour Council (ESLC), a social dialogue body established by South Korean President Moon Jae-in. The committee is scheduled to issue recommendations on labour law revision on March 7...(source: PSI, 3.04)
