THE 13th DAY OF GENERAL STRIKE

Yesterday the first time government employees supported the protests and promptly they were arrested.

In the city of Nepalganj, according to the German daily newspaper TAZ, 4.18, relatives of the "security" forces deomnstrated and demanded from their husbands, fathers... to stop the attacks against the pro-democratic movement.

Meanwhile, so TAZ, several communities in more rural areas in Nepal declared themselves as "Liberated Areas". Usually only communities, controlled by the CPN-M, the Liberation Movement and the People's Militias are "Liberated Zones".

In the same time the Western media are more and more just reporting about the "bad impacts" of the general strike for the "ordinary" people, even the majority of the people are unconditionally supporting the strike and accept the associated bad conditions for the daily life. Since the beginning of the general strike nearly all factories are closed. All employees of the public service, banks, post offices etc. are also in strike. Actually nothing is going anymore.

This is "the beginning of the end," C.K. Lal, a columnist for The Nepali Times, said in an interview. He predicted further "suppression by the regime," followed by bigger and more intense street protests.

For the coming Thursday the SPA and CPN.M are organizing for another nationwide central mass demonstration.
