[노래] '임을 위한 행진곡'

May 18 is the 36th anniversary of the Gwangju Democratization Movement. It’s a day when we should be pledging efforts to honor the noble goals of those who sacrificed themselves for democracy and ensure that it flowers further in South Korea. Yet reality is moving in the opposite direction completely...(Hankyoreh, 5.18)

On May 16, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs officially decided not to have the attendees sing "March for the Beloved" in unison at the ceremony commemorating the 36th anniversary of the May 18 pro-democracy movement...(Kyunghyang Shinmun, 5.17)

Song banned for Gwangju ceremony. The government has denied calls to recognize a song symbolizing the May 18 Democratic Uprising. The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said Thursday that "March for Our Beloved" will not be sung by attendees of a memorial service for the 1980 democracy movement in Gwangju next week...(K. But, (alsmost)all South Koreans(except the reactionary media such as Dong-A/Chosun Ilbo, semi-fascist groups like the Korean Parents Association and last but not least the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs) recognize ‘March of the Beloved’ as the official song that represents the May Gwangju people’s uprising.  This is arguably the most popular song not only at commemorations for the Gwangju people’s uprising but also at various rallies, protests, and other sites of people’s struggle...(ZOOM in Korea, 2014.5.21)

“Marching for our Beloved” ("임을 위한 행진곡", Lyrics by Baek Gi-wan, composed by Kim Jong-ryul, translated by Robert David Grotjohn)

Verse1

We will leave no honors, no love, no fame.
We promised to keep working on, long as we shall live
Streams and mountains remember though the years pass by
Waken’d spirits are calling us as they shout this cry:
“We are marching on; keep faith n follow us.”
“We are marching on; keep faith n follow us.”

Verse2

Dear comrades have gone; our flag still waves.
While working for days to come we will not be swayed
Streams and mountains remember though the years pass by
Waken’d spirits are calling us as they shout this cry:
“We are marching on; keep faith n follow us.”
“We are marching on; keep faith n follow us.”
