Y'day(1.27) afternoon in central Seoul: The 6th Collective mourning/Memorial service on the 49th day following death of Kim Yong-gyun, precarious power plant worker, killed by the outsourcing of danger. On Jan. 16, his sit-in will reach the 500-day mark. The driver is Kim Jae-ju, president of the North Jeolla Chapter of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union. Kim started his sit-in on Sept. 4, 2017, and has vowed to continue until the city government meets his demands...

Two weeks ago(1.09) Korea Times reported the following: 60-year-old Euljiro industrial district being torn down to make way for high-rise apartments. For seven weeks, Lee Bae-woong, 75, and his son have been trying to salvage what they could from their 38-year-old hardware store in Euljiro, downtown Seoul. With excavators due in a week, they were running out of time. "The construction company will bury me under lawsuits if I don't move out by Sunday," Lee lamented as he looked at the remaining clutter on the store's floor and shelves, Jan. 3. Some hours later, around noon(KST) CAGA staged an "emergency press conference" in front of Seoul's City Hall under the motto: "Preserve the living history of craftsmen and merchants in the Cheonggyecheon-Euljiro area!!"...
Afterwards CAGA proclaimed to the press: The Seoul Metropolitan Government's 'Review of Preservation' announced this morning does not include its commitment to the three zones that are being torn down. Eulji Myeonok, Joseonok, and Yangmiok are designated as living heritage because they are old historic sites. Do you(Seoul Metropolitan Government!!) mean that the rest of the Euljiro industrial/manufacturing area is only OLD TRASH? The entire readjustment promotion zone established should be designated as 'special manufacturing and cultural industrial zones'...
