"Specter of military option for North Korea on the rise"(Asia Times, 1.05)

U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter vowed Sunday to shoot down any North Korean missile that flies toward the U.S. or its allies...(Yonhap, 1.09)

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry warned Tuesday that the U.S. could seek "more forceful ways" to affect North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's thinking if he persists in forging ahead with intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities...(Yonhap, 1.10)

Former US Secretary of Defense William Perry, one of the US’s leading realist advocates of dialogue with North Korea, suggested Washington should proactively attempt negotiations with Pyongyang, but also consider “Plan B” actions such as shooting down airborne North Korean missiles in case the talks fail...(Hankyoreh, 1.11)

And here you'll get NK's answer, via today's KCNA: It is the stand of the DPRK to steadily bolster up its capability for self-defence and preemptive attack, the pivot of which is the nuclear force, unless the U.S. makes a switchover in its hostile policy toward the DPRK, Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says in an article.

Noting that the self-defensive war deterrence of the DPRK provides a sure guarantee for peace and stability in the region and peace and security of the world, the article goes on:

It is the decisive resolution and will of the DPRK army and people to beat back the aggressors trying hard to stifle it with nukes, through their stronger nuclear strikes.

The DPRK has made its nuclear weapons smaller, lighter and diversified and is possessed of various type delivery means capable of making nuclear strikes at anywhere anytime.

Eye-opening events of bolstering up defence capability will take place in the DPRK one after another.

The U.S. would not be safe though it is more than ten thousand kilometers away from the DPRK. It will not be long before the DPRK's ICBM strikes terror into the hearts of the U.S. warmongers.

The U.S. is mulling frightening the Korean people through the UN "sanctions resolution", but nothing can match the mysterious might of the single-minded unity of all the service personnel and people of the DPRK and their self-development capability.

The world will get further confident that the DPRK will demonstrate its might as a nuclear power and military power in the East and that the DPRK's victory in the standoff with the U.S. is the ever-lasting tradition of the former.

Hey KimJU(you f*cking little fat bastard boy!!)... possibly you're misinterpreting the intentions by the U.S.A.!? They're not just talking about "UN 'sanctions resolution'" anymore... They're talking about "military options" against YOU!!

Eventually you've only ONE solution to survive...

A thousand days after the sinking of the ferry Sewol, the disaster is still a controversy as survivors and victims' families say they continue to suffer as their suspicions remain unanswered. The sinking killed 304 passengers, most of them students of Danwon High School in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, on a school excursion. Nine passengers remain unaccounted for and the Sewol still lies on the seabed off the southern Jin Island...(source: K. Times, 1.09)

Therefore the first candlelight rally of the new year had been held in honor of the Sewol ferry disaster(aka Sewol Massacre). Hankyoreh reported last Friday(1.06): During a press conference(1.05 @KCTU's HQ in Seoul), the organizers of the rally (known as the Emergency Nationwide Campaign for the Resignation of Park Geun-hye) announced that the title of the 11th candlelight rally, which will be held on Jan. 7, is “Down with Park Geun-hye and Up with the Sewol Ferry.”

Last Saturday(1.07) afternoon/evening: Hundred of thousands of South Koreans took to streets across the country, demanding - once again - that scandal-tainted President Park Geun-hye step down. It was the 11th consecutive weekend rally, which first started on Oct. 29 over an influence-peddling scandal centered on Park and her long-time friend Choi Soon-sil... With some 1,500 civic groups involved, the first rally of the new year at Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square centered around the Sewol ferry, whose sinking off the country's southwest coast in April 2014 took the lives of more than 300 people, most of whom were high school students on a field trip... Holding placards critical of Park and lit candles, protesters demanded the immediate resignation of the president and the salvage of the Sewol, which has yet to be retrieved from under the sea. Organizers said about 600,000 gathered for the rally in central Seoul...

Similar anti-Park rallies were also staged in major cities across the country on Saturday, including Ulsan, Busan...

Former students at Danwon High School, who survived the sinking of the ferry Sewol, will have their voices heard at a candlelit protest against President Park Geun-hye, Saturday.

The rally organizers said Thursday that this year's first and the 11th rally altogether will commemorate the incident...

It is the first time for the surviving students to make a public appearance to tell their stories since the sinking took place on April 16, 2014, while some have appeared in individual media interviews.

"We will call for a thorough investigation of the Sewol disaster and mete out due punishment to those responsible," the organizers said at a press conference at the Seoul office of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU).

Marking the 1,000th day since the disaster, which falls on Jan. 9, the organizers will jointly host the rally with the relatives at 5:30 p.m. at Gwanghwamun Square. The surviving students and relatives of those who died will take the stage to criticize the government's inept response to the sinking...(source: Korea Times, 1.05)

Lawyers representing President Park Geun-hye said Thursday that protesters at the candlelit rallies did not represent the people because a North Korean sympathizer orchestrated the gatherings... Over the past 10 weeks, more than 10 million people have gathered to demand Park's resignation over an influence-peddling scandal involving her confidant Choi Soon-sil... "Protesters who gathered near Cheong Wa Dae with candles do not represent the people as a whole," they said. They alleged that the organizer of the candlelit rallies was a North Korea sympathizer. "The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions organized weekend rallies. And the composer of a song satirizing Park, which was sung during the rallies, was previously arrested for violating the National Security Law by praising former North Korea leader Kim Il-sung"...(source: Korea Times, 1.05)

'국정원'(NIS) 해체하라!!!!

Yesterday's Korea Times reported the following: The independent counsel team is looking into suspicions that the nation's spy agency was involved in the creation of a blacklist of artists critical of the government in its widening investigation of the scandal surrounding President Park Geun-hye and her confidant Choi Soon-sil.

Confiscated email and text message records showed that officials of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) were in contact with Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officials regarding the blacklist of artists allegedly drawn up by Cheong Wa Dae to restrict their work.

The counsel team secured the records after raiding the offices and homes of ministry officials in Seoul and Sejong last month.

It also found evidence that NIS officials had frequently visited the ministry in Sejong. A ministry official told the team that he had been ordered to tell them about issues among artists' groups...
