Since 84 days two labor activists - one official of the irregular workers' union of Hyundai Motors and the other a former irregular worker at the automaker - are now in sit-in strike on a power supply post...
Two weeks ago The Korea Herald reported that "A local court ordered two Hyundai Motor Co. contract workers to end their two-month protest atop a power-transmission tower, saying rejection of the ruling will cause them to pay daily fines of 300,000 won (US$280)..."
And it seems that y'day was the first 'rehearsal' to end the protest by force in the - possibly - near future: So-called 'security guards', i.e. thugs hired by Hyudai Motors, tried to storm and demolish the Solidarity Camp. But as you can see... their 'performance'(^^) FAILED(!!!):

Auto workers' sit-in on power supply post
This photo taken on Jan. 8, 2013, shows three men, including Han Sang-kyun, the former leader of Ssangyong Motor Co.'s labor union, holding a sit-in on an electrical power supply tower near the company's plant in Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul, for the 50th consecutive day to demand the company reinstate its laid-off workers and that a parliamentary inspection of the lay-offs be held. Their berth 30 meters up the 50 meter tower has a space of 7 square meters. Due to safety reasons, two of the three sleep at night while the remaining one is on sentry duty. (source: today's Yonhap)

... the new 'Hope Bus' campaign started! The first destination was Ulsan (at least 1,500 actvists from all across S. Korea arrived by bus!), the steel pylon in front Hyundai Motors, occupied now since 81 days...
The second destination was Busan. Here - in front of Hanjin Heavy Industry - the final struggle culture festival took place, attended by 3,000 activists until midnight...

High Altitude Sit-in Struggle - "Gangnam Style"
Today at noon in Seoul's affluent Gangnam district: Two elderly security guard workers, organized in KCTU's General Trade Union, climbed a chimney (altitude: 70m!!) and started a sit-in struggle to demand regular employment contracts:

Starting in the early morning of Nov. 20, three dismissed Ssangyong Motor workers in Pyeongtaek(Gyeonggi province) ascended an electricity pylon to stage a sit-in protest. KCTU activists Han Sang-kyun, Moon Ki-joo and Bok Ki-seong are demanding the re-employment of the dismissed workers(as promised by the SsangYong management) and that a parliamentary inspection of the lay-offs be held.
Today is their 41st day of sit-in struggle...
And almost daily - especially now during the 'holiday season' - manifold solidarity activities are beeing held to support their fierce(it's wintertime with 10~15 degrees below zero!!) struggle...
Last Friday(12.28), for example, an impressive "Solidarity Street Art Festival" took place in front of the occupied electricity pylon:

Within a week after the 18th presidential election, three workers and a civic group activist have taken their own lives. The civil society is taking action calling for an end to any more deaths.
They announced their plans for a general strike in January next year demanding President Lee Myung-bak and president-elect Park Geun-hye to put an end to labor repression by suspending the temporary seizures of property for damage claims, etc.
Three civic groups including a Network for a World without Temporary Workers and Let's Live Together held a memorial for the workers who took their own lives. More than 300 citizens attended the service, which began at 7 p.m. on Dec. 26 in front of Daehanmun, Deoksugung Palace, Seoul... (Kyunghyang Shinmun, 12.27)
