"영미시 강독" 시험 공부하다가 문득, 적어두고 싶어서.

이 시 좋다. 디킨슨의 시.

하나도 놀랍지 않아

행복한 아무 꽃이나

생생할 때 서리가 그 목을 벤다고 해도─

뜻밖의 힘을 가지고서─

금발의 암살자는 지나가 버리고─

해는 움직이지도 않은 채

또 하루를 재러 나아가고

신이 이에 만족한다고 해도.

Ozymandias

I met a traveler from an antique land

Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone

Stand in the desert . . . Near them, on the sand,

Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,

The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;

And on the pedestal these words appear:

"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings;

Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"

고대의 땅에서 온 여행자를 만났다. 그가 말했다:

돌로 된 두 개의 거대한 다리가 몸체도 없이

사막에 서 있더군 . . . 그 가까이에는, 모래 위에,

반쯤 가라앉은, 산산 조각난 얼굴이 놓여 있어. 그 찡그리고

주름진 입술과, 차가운 명령을 내리는 듯한 비웃음을 보니

그 조각가가 감정을 잘 읽어냈다는 것을 알 수 있었지.

아직도 살아남아서 이 생기없는 것들 위에 찍혀있는 감정,

그것들을 조롱하는 손보다, 그 위로 스며드는 심장보다도 오래;

그리고 받침대 위에는 다음의 말이 적혀 있더라고:

"나는 왕중의 왕, 오지맨디아스다;

내가 만든 것을 보라, 그대 권력자여, 그리고 절망하라!"

이 밖에는 남지 않았지. 이 거대한 잔해가

부식해가는 주위에는, 외롭고 평탄한 모래사장이

저 멀리까지 끝없이 황량하게 펼쳐져 있더군.
