UPI는 16일 검찰이 지난 4월 세월호 참사 1주기에 벌인 집회에서 경찰에 불응한 혐의로 한 활동가를 구속했다고 보도했다.

기사는 이승규 서울중앙지법 부장판사가 박래군 4.16연대 삼임 위원장에게 집회 중 “불법행위”를 이유로 구속영장을 발부했다고 전했다.

서울경찰청은 박 씨에게 불법 집회 주도와 집회 해산 명령에 불응 등으로 구속 영장을 청구했다고 밝혔다. 경찰은 시위자들이 세월호 1주기 추모 집회와 노동절 파업 중, 도로를 불법으로 점거하고 경찰을 물리적으로 공격했다고 주장했다고 뉴시스를 인용하여 말했다.

이에 세월호 운동가들이 박 씨의 체포를 거세게 비난했으며 정부 당국이 세월호 침몰에 대한 진실규명을 방해하고 있다고 비판했다고 연합뉴스를 인용하여 전했다.

박 씨의 구속을 시작으로 경찰은 손해 배상 청구 등 다른 활동가들에 대해서도 강력 대응에 나선 가운데 19일, 두 군데의 비영리 사무실을 압수 수색했다고 덧붙였다.

기사는 작년 4월에 전복된 세월호 사고로 304명이 사망했으며 유가족들이 사고의 원인에 대해 더욱 자세한 조사를 할 것을 정부에 요구해왔다고 설명했다.

SEOUL, July 16 (UPI) — A South Korean activist was taken into custody for not complying with police during a Sewol ferry anniversary protest in April.

서울, 7월 16일 (UPI) — 한국의 한 활동가가 지난 4월 세월호 참사 1주년 집회 중 경찰에 불응한 혐의로 구속되었다.

Park Rae-gun, co-chairman of the Sewol Tragedy National Task Force, was arrested based on evidence of “wrongdoings” that included failure to adhere to police rules, according to Seoul Central District Court’s Chief Judge Lee Seung-gyu.

박래군 4.16연대 상임위원장에게 경찰의 명령에 불응 등의 “불법행위”를 이유로 이승규 서울중앙지법 부장판사가 구속영장을 발부했다.

Seoul police had sought a warrant for Park’s arrest, after he and his group held a rally without police permission and did not comply with an order to end the rally, South Korean outlet Newsis reported.

서울경찰청은 박래군과 4.16연대 단체가 경찰의 허가 없이 집회를 주도하고 집회 해산 명령에 불응했기에 박 씨에 대한 구속 영장을 청구했다고 한국 통신사 뉴시스가 보도했다.

According to the police agency, protesters illegally occupied a road and physically assaulted police during two protests, one held on the anniversary of the Sewol ferry tragedy and other during a May Day, or labor-day strike in Seoul.

경찰은, 시위자들이 서울에서의 두 개의 집회 기간, 세월호 1주기 추모 집회와 노동절 파업 중, 도로를 불법으로 점거하고 경찰을 물리적으로 공격했다고 밝혔다.

Police have taken strong countermeasures against the activists, leading up to Park’s arrest, and are seeking $78,500 in damages.

경찰은 박 씨의 구속을 시작으로 이들 활동가에 대해 강력 대책에 나섰고 78,500달러의 손해 배상을 청구 중이다.

On June 19, authorities seized and searched the offices of two nonprofits where Park and a second activist, Kim Hye-jin, kept their documents. Police filed claims the Sewol and other protests that took place on April 11, 16, 18 and May 1 were illegal.

The Seoul court did not issue an arrest warrant for Kim, the second activist police sought to detain.

.On Wednesday, a Chinese-led consortium was selected as the preferred bidder in South Korea’s Sewol salvage operations, Seatrade Maritime Review reported.

The consortium includes China’s state-owned Shanghai Salvage and a South Korean company, and has offered to lift Sewol for $74 million.
