Dear fellow bloggers,

Greetings!

We will conduct a virtual meeting of bloggers in the East Asia region
to discuss the political crisis in Thailand. The chat discussion will
take place this coming September 12, Friday, 10pm-12mn.

Last month we also conducted a virtual meeting about the corruption

We hope you can join us on Friday. This will be an opportunity to
deepen our knowledge about the crisis in Thailand, and to interact
with other bloggers from the region.

As a brief background, protesters have occupied Thailand's Government
House for two weeks already. They are demanding the resignation of the
Prime Minister.

키리가 MWTV(이주노동자방송)과 필리핀 이주노동자 공동체의 지원으로 9월 10일까지 머문다고 하는데, 한국의 독립영화운동이나 대안미디어운동의 활동가분들과 만나고 싶다고 합니다.

필리핀(도 그렇고 다른 아시아 나라들)과 한국이 근대사사(식민지 경험, 군사독재, 민주화운동 등)도 그렇고, IMF 금융위기나 FTA 등의 억압적 무역협정, 서로 간의 노동과 자본의 이동(이주노동자, 기업의 투자 및 현지 공장 등)으로 인한 노동운동, 미군기지 반대 투쟁, 반전평화 운동 등등 다양한 이슈와 운동의 경험을 같이 하고 있다는 차원에서 국제연대는 예전부터 있어왔고, 독립영화나 대안미디어운동의 아시아 네트워크 역시 절실히 필요하고 여기저기서 진행되고 있습니다.

말레이시아, 쿠알라룸푸르의 '사회변화를 위한 민중 커뮤니케이션' - "코마스"(www.komas.org)가
매년 개최해온 인권영화제인 자유영화제(FFF, freedomfilmfest.komas.org)가
올해는 9월 (쿠알라룸프루에서는) 14-16일 사이에 열립니다.
코마스는, 쿠알라룸푸르 안이지만 거의 외곽에 있는 공동체미디어센터입니다. 
말레이시아도 이주노동자들이 많은데 이주노동자들이나 다양한 사회적 소수자들 그리고
선주민들을 찾아가거나 하면서 미디어교육도 하고, 제작도 하고, 이렇게 영화제도 하고...  



올해의 주제는 "독립". 말레이시아가 영국으로부터 독립한 지 올해로 딱 50년이라고 하네요. 
전세계 곳곳에서 벌어진, 벌어지고 있는 대안을 위한, 독립을 위한 투쟁을 북돋는 이야기들을 영화제에서 보여주고 싶다고...
그런 영화가 있다면, 출품해 달라고!

와하까 민중들의 연중 문화 축제, "Guelaguetza"가 준비되고 치뤄지는 과정에서,
멕시코 연방 보안 경찰이 와하까민중회의(APPO) 회원들의 출입을 봉쇄하고, 폭력적으로 진압하면서...
1명이 죽고, 62명이 연행되고, 수많은 사람들이 실종되었다고 합니다...

sorry for not being very concise yesterday, i can only access the internet
1hour a day- so here iam again, this email focus primarily about the media
project (a-manila)

What we need:

-1 year hosting
-possibly a domain
-content management system (one that is open publishing)

we want it this time to be a nationwide focus- we are interested in
collaborate w/ the Davao people (since they have media equipment and alot
of interesting things happen there that go undocumented)

-as for us in manila, we don't even have a camera- but we do have a lot of
contacts- so its basically much a contributions based format.

the a-manila name (we can change it to pirativa.net) to adapt (and to
dodge off from spammers and virtual attackers, the server of the former
a-manila was targeted by DDos attacks)

the media reorganization would start from the website (us posting for
volunteers, & seeking potential allies) the first post would be about a
survey (asking 10-20 local people about media related matters) and of
course about the film screening activity of MIP w/ guest speaker fr Korea
narrating about Daechuri War

-you guys can also be a part of the project if you want- it will be an
interesting initiative to show to the list how we both work together &
exchange ideas etc.

if you guys cannot provide a domain, we can just settle for a subdomain
until we can afford to purchase our own.

please let me know whenever it is ready, you can set an online meeting in
asian media net IRC to discuss & if you need more info etc.

The Film screening activity:

here are the films we are going to screen:

1. In Whose Interest? (filmmakers against war)
2. The Political Economy of Genocide (revolt video)
3. Daechuri War (fr Korea)
+ local videos (MIP)

participation would be from 20-50 people depending on the capacity of the
venue.. for now, we have to postpone the date of the screening- most
preferable next week, there are other collectives in the Afest, but we are
not informed of their schedules. in the 15th the venue would be QC circle,
but judging from the weather- i think it would not be possible to organize
an open air activity.

i will send updates how everything goes..
