새날이 밝아온다 ♫

12월에 보스턴 인근에서 한-중-미 전염병 역학 전문가 회의(?)가 열린다고 해서 나도 얼떨결에 가게 되었다. 전문가도 아닌데 말이지.... (그런데 도대체 내 전문은 뭘까????)

뭔지 정체도 모르면서, 와서 배우고 구경이나 하라니 얼씨구나 하고 참가한다고 했는데....

아까 홈피에 들어가보고 충격 먹었다.

신기술과 관련된 무역 장벽을 없애고 미국의 해외 관계를 돈독히 하는 프로그램 중 하나....

주 정부에서 돈 대주면서 외국 학자들 불러다가 학술을 매개로 흡수(co-opt) 하는....

물론, 이름은 매우 학술적이고, 참가하는 한국 역학자들 (외국은 모르니까)은 이 방면에서 빛나는(!) 업적을 쌓아온 훌륭한 연구자들일 뿐 아니라 그 중 일부는 내가 개인적으로 좋아하는 선배들이다. 

자본주의 사회의 모든 학술 활동이 신자유주의의 포섭 전략이라고 결론 내려버리는 거야 분명 오바질이지만..... 항상 경계를 늦추지 않아야 한다는 걸 다시 한 번 깨닫는다.  

아마 이전의 많은 연구자들, 대부분(?) "순수한" 마음으로 연구하고 일을 해왔을 거다. 순수한 마음으로.... 기술개발을 촉진하고, 최신 정보를 교환하고...인류의 복리를 증진하고자.... 그리고 그 순수한 학문적 성취로 신자유주의 강화에 (자신도 모르게) 복무하고...

사방이 지뢰밭이다. 조심 또 조심...

어쨌든 나로서야 또다른 의미에서 좋은 기회. 자세히, 꼼꼼히 관찰해야지!
