마틴 아저씨가 지지 성명을 아주 'nasty' 하게 써주겠다는 다짐을 받아냈다. 푸핫

매주 수요일은 마틴 아저씨가 사무실 나와서 같이 노는 날..근데 지난 2주간은 마틴 아저씨가 스페인으로 휴가를 다녀와서 사무실에 나오지 않았다. 요 며칠 지루했던 이유가 딴 게 아니라 수요일 저녁엔 늘 술을 마시다가 2주동안 마틴 아저씨도 없고 술 마실 일도 없어서 그랬나보다. 오늘도 역시나 부어라 마셔라 마셨다. 아니지..여기는 프론트에 가서 각자 잔을 받아오는 시스템이니, 가서 술 받아와서 마시자 뭐 이런 모드로 마신 것 같다.

마틴 아저씨가 없는 동안 쌓였던 것들도 풀고..사실 오늘도 내가 점심을 대접했는데 설거지를 아무도 하려고 하니 않는 모습에 이젠 하루 이틀도 아니고 혼자 설거지를 하면서 씨부렁 거렸는데 그런 불만들이 아저씨랑 맥주 마시면서 싸악 풀려버렸다. 자꾸 비교 준거가 되는 아랫집이 떠오르는데, 아랫집에선 '자잘한' 노동 분담을 어떻게 했나 떠올려 보니 설거지는 가위바위보로 종종 해결을 했던 것 같다. 가위바위보 하나로 성별 분업의 문제가 사라지는 건 아니겠지만 여기와서 보니 밥(빵?)준비 거의 안 하고 설거지는 더더욱 안 하고 자기 컴퓨터로 휙 돌아가버리는 a 모씨를 보고 있자니 차라리 가위바위보라도 하는게 그나마 절차적으로 공평한 분업을 보장하는 게 아닐까 하는 생각이 들었다. 여기 처음 일 시작해선 돌아가는 구조를 익히려고 부러 내가 이것 저것 일을 맡아서 하곤 그랬는데 시간이 지나고 나니 이건 아닌데 하는 생각들이 들고 있다. 감정표현도 절대 안 하고(특히 독일인들ㅋㅋ) 서로 지지해주고 힘주는 그런 분위기도 전혀 없이 자기 일만 열심히 하는 그런 분위기가 이제 숨이 막혀 온다. 관계가 지속되면 어느 순간 서로 미운 것들이 보이기 시작하는 것처럼 나의 이런 감정들도 늘 겪게 되는 그런 단계 중 하나겠지 하며 스스로 달래보기도 하고, 뭐 난 겨우 3,4개월 있다 가는 건데 내가 뭐 공정하게 분석하고 평가를 할 수 있겠어 하는 생각도 들지만 그래도 남는 찝찝한 감정들...

암튼 마틴 아저씨가 오늘 나의 구세주였다. 다음 주에 떠난다고 아쉽다며 겉으로 표현해주는 사람도 마틴 아저씨밖에 없다.ㅠㅠ 심지어 다음 주 월요일 저녁에 또 한번 자기 집에 놀러오란다. 자기는 다음 날 9시까지 또 출근해야 하는 거 뻔히 아는데 초대를 하다니..몸둘 바를 모르겠다. 다음 주 수요일에도 나 더러 꼭 나와서 술 한잔 하자면서, (여느 때의 시니컬함을 섞어) 비행기 타기 전에 술에 잔뜩 취하는게 긴 여행 하기에 편하다면서 얘기를 하는데 그간 여기 사무실에서 생겼던 마음의 벽들이 사르르 녹아버렸다.-_-

난 정말 마틴 아저씨처럼 도서관 사서가 될까보다. 마틴 아저씨가 이 동네에 있는 사서 자격증 코스도 알아봐준다는데..그 말을 듣고나니 굳이 사서 자격증 따려고 비싼 돈 내고 건너올 필요가 있겠냐는 현실적인 생각에 앞서 그냥 그런 말이 고마울 따름이다. 생각해보면 울 아빠 혹은 아버지보다 나이가 많은 사람과 서로 '친구mate'라 부르며 잘 지냈다는 게 재밌게도 하고. 한국에서도 이렇게 나보다 나이 많은 아저씨들과 잘 지낼 수가 있을까?

되게 유명하다는 미국 사서 이름을 전해받아 집에 오자마자 구글에서 검색을 해서 다음과 같은 사이트를 찾았다. 그 사람이 했다는 말을 붙여본다.

Thus, we must proceed from the premise that even the subordinate person can, within certain - perhaps narrow - limits, reach morally just decisions in conflict with illegal orders, in spite of the psychological pressure inherent in being under command. However, the pressure exercised by a surrounding environment comprising widespread criminality and brutality can, in combination with twisted, imprinted ideals and the very fact of standing under the command of a superior whose judgment is assumed to be reliable, make it very difficult for the subordinate to retain what we consider to be sound moral values. But it is important that we maintain the principle of personal responsibility on all levels, chiefly to conuteract all of these negative factors and to make it clear to the individual that he has the right and the duty to refuse to carry out orders thich are in violation of international law.

조나단의 최신곡?ㅎㅎ 이번 겨울 딱 한번 내렸던 눈이 왔던 날의 헤이스팅스 바닷가 모습을 배경으로 뮤직비디오를 찍었다. 나도 노래 만들고 직접 부르며 비디오도 찍고 유튜브에도 올리는 재미를 느껴보고 싶다.

다시 올리는 사진들이다. 지난 주말을 빡세게 보내고 바로 또 월요일부터 일을 했으니 이번 주말엔 좀 쉬어야지 했는데 여전히 가고 싶은 곳들이 생긴다. 꾸준히 돌아다님으로써 내가 살아있다는 것을 스스로 느끼고자 하는 강박관념인지도 모르겠다. 그래도 햇살 좋은 날 봄기운을 맞으며 산책하는 즐거움은 다른 것들과 쉽게 바꿀 수 없는 느낌인 것 같다.
앞으로 런던에서 보낼 주말이 한번 더 남았다. 다음 주말엔 뭘 하고 놀까,,,라고 생각을 해볼까 하지만, 이번 주 중에 정리해야 할 일들이 많으므로 일단 패스.. 이번 주 수요일, 마틴 아저씨가 돌아오는 날에 부침개를 부칠까 말까...아직도 고민 중이다. ㅎㅎ 사무실 부엌에 후라이팬도 없고 전을 부치기엔 적절하지가 않아서 그냥 또 카레로 쉽게 갈까 아님 큰 맘 먹고 부침개에 도전을 할까 이게 지금 나의 가장 큰 고민 중 하나이다. 푸핫





참,,지난 주에는 쥴리안이랑 같이 아스날 경기를 보러 갔다. 헐 시티와의 fa컵 8강이라고 했었나.. 쥴리안이 축구에 관심이 많아서, 하루는 갑자기 나보고 같이 축구보러 같이 가지 않겠냐고 하는데 티켓도 비싸고 자본 강독 모임이랑 시간이 겹쳐서 어쩔까 하다가 에라 모르겠다 내 인생에 딱 한번 있는 구경이다 생각하고 티켓을 질렀다. 나름 야구장 가면 느낄 수 있는 분위기를 상상하며 갔는데(-_-)... 경기장에 앉아있으니 전후반 90분이 금방 가긴 하더라. 그 날 입장한 관중 숫자가 전광판에 뜨는데 오만 오천 몇명 이라고 한다. 경기장 들어가는 과정에 가방 수색도 하고 security guard 들도 많아서 비호감이었지만 쥴리안의 들뜬 기분을 맞춰주기 위해 조용히 있었다.
이날 뜬금없이 들었던 생각. 한국인들이 여기 애들보다 훨씬 더 노래부르는 것을 좋아하는 건(익숙한 건) 아닐까 하는 생각. 야구장 가면 각 팀마다 주제가부터 시작해서 개사한 노래들을 신나게 따라부르곤 하는데 이에 비해 짧은 구호들을 몇 번 외치다 마는 여기 응원이 나에겐 아주 재미가 없었다. 사람이 그렇게 많이 들어찼으니 계속 웅성웅성 소리는 들리지만, 마치 연극을 보러 온 사람들처럼 다들 보통은 가만히 앉아있기만 했다. 한편, 상대팀과 상대팀 응원객들을 야유하는 기술은 정말 발달한 듯.ㅎㅎ 
한국에서 응원단장이 있고 거기에 맞춰 응원하는 문화는 언제부터 생긴걸까 하는 생뚱맞은 질문도 문득 스친다. 이런 응원문화가 한국 사회의 집단주의 문화와 연관이 있는 걸까 하는 억측스런 생각도 든다.
 




암튼 오늘은 좀 일찍 집을 나서서(12시 반쯤?) 워털루 역에 내려 강 따라 런던브리지쪽으로 쭈욱 걸었다. 집에서 일찍 나온 이유는 다름 아니라 모리슨이 문 닫는 시간(4시)에 늦지 않고자 함이었다.-_- 일본 가서 만날 치즈루가 여기서 좋아했던 모리슨 초코쿠키를 사보겠다고.. 암튼 모리슨은 언제나 마음을 편하게 만들어 준다. 묘한 힘이다.ㅎㅎ 테스코나 세인즈버리에선 절대 느낄 수 없는..
위 사진은.. 캠든타운에 있는 모리슨에 가기 전에 들른 캠든 마켓에서... 





탬즈강변에도 사람이 그렇게 많았는데 여기 캠든 마켓에도 사람들이 우글우글 하다. 규모도 상당히 넓다. 4차원 취향의 사람들이 좋아할 만한 것들이 여기저기 많다. 구석구석 돌아다니려면 눈요기 하며 오후 한나절을 족히 보낼 수 있을 것 같다. 





브릭레인 마켓에서처럼 여기에도 이것 저것 먹을 것들을 파는 노점상(?)들이 있다. 이런 저런 음식 냄새들이 식욕을 돋운다. 누구 같이 온 사람이 있으면 땡기는 걸로 하나 사서 앞에 있는 운하 가에 앉아 햇살을 맞으며 먹는 건데. 맥주도 한잔 하고. 혼자 있으니 그냥 다 귀찮아진다.

한국에 사들고 돌아 가야지 계획했던 것들은 이제 대충 다 산 듯하다. 어제는 freedom press 서점을 가까스로 찾아내서 책을 몇 권 샀다. 오늘도 생각했던 사람들 선물들을 좀 샀다. 휴우..
이럴 때 새삼 내가 계획적 인간이라는 것을 자각한다.

어쩌다 내 아들은 감옥에 가는가

내 아들은 나쁜 놈입니다.

국방의 의무가 국민의 의무인 대한민국에서는 용납할 수 없는 놈이지요.

나도 이런 아들을 욕하고 비난했습니다.

남 다 가는 군대를, 그것도 4주 군사훈련만 하고 지하철에서 공익으로 근무하라는 것도 마다했을 때,

정말 미웠습니다.

어쩌면 이렇게도 어미의 가슴을 아프게 하는지, 진정 가족을 생각하는 자식이라고는 믿을 수 없었습니다.

너무도 이기적이고 자기 생각만 하는 나쁜 놈이라고 욕했습니다.

나는 그 애를 알지 못했기에, 내가 편하고 싶었기에 아들의 마음을 들여다보고 싶지 않았습니다.

어미인 나는 그저 아침에 따뜻한 밥을 먹이고 저녁이면 따뜻하게 재우고 싶은 마음밖에 없습니다.

신념? 정의? 잘못된 체제? 다 개나 물어가라지!

양심에 따른 병역 거부? 그래, 다 좋다. 너만 안 하면 누가 뭐라냐?

여호와의 증인도 있고 다른 애들도 있지 않은가?

다만 내 아들은 조용히 살아 주길 바랬습니다.

좋은 한의사로서 어려운 이웃들을 보살피고, 하고 싶은 일을 하는 단체에 든든한 후원자가 되어서 누가 보아도 보기 좋은 이웃이 되기를 원했습니다.

그동안 아들은 내가 모르는 곳, 내가 가보지 못한 곳을 많이 다녔습니다.

이스라엘, 팔레스타인지구, 이라크에서 또한 내가 보지 못하고 느끼지 못했던 것을 가슴 아프게 겪고 왔고, 또 그 일이 그에게 많은 고민과 갈등을 갖게 했습니다.

그가 원하는 것은 평화이고 비폭력이며 자신의 존재에 대한 의문이었습니다.

총과 무기가 없는 세상이라면, 살상도 전쟁도 없으리라고 믿는 아이의 신념은

마치 어린아이들이 모여서 가위 바위 보로 술래를 정하는 것처럼 단순합니다.

그러나 그 단순함이 모이고 합쳐지다면 진정 전쟁없는 세상이 오리라고 저도 믿습니다.

모두 총을 거두고 무기를 없앤다면, 지금처럼 끔찍한 학살은 일어나지 않을 것입니다.

 

저는 아들의 신념을 믿습니다. 그것이 내가 이해할 수 없는 일일지라도

나는 그 아이의 어미이기에 힘을 더 해주고 격려해주며 이 힘든 시기를 겪어 나갈 것입니다.

가족이 외면한다면 누가 이 아이를 응원하고 힘이 되어 주겠습니까?

지난 몇 달 간 저는 주변 사람들로부터 무수히 많은 질책과 비난을 받았습니다.

애를 어떻게 길러서 그러냐? 에미가 오냐 오냐 하니까 자식이 제 멋대로다.

그런 나쁜 놈은 호적을 파 가라고 그래라.

그런 말들을 들으면서 나는 그들이 나를 사랑한다는 것을 깨달았습니다.

나를 사랑하기에 나를 괴롭히는 내 자식이 미웠던 것입니다.

 

사람은 누구나 다 자기 길이 있습니다.

그것이 이해하기 어렵고 인정하기 힘든 길일지라도 본인이 꼭 가야겠다면,

가야만 할 길이 있기에 나는 내 아들을 보냅니다.

단지 바라는 것이 있다면, 이런 일은 내 아들로서 끝이 나길 바랍니다.

세월이 가면 반드시 모병제가 될 것이며, 병역거부로 감옥에도 갔다는 전설이 생길 것입니다.

욕하고 비난하고 격려해 주신 많은 분들께 감사를 드립니다.

A regular inter-agency consultative meeting reviews all matters related to export control. The consultative meeting includes experts from industry, research institutes and academic institutions.
Enforcement	The Customs Office.
End-user requirements	South Korea requires a commitment from the importer not to re-export the item without consent.
Licensing of negotiations or pre-shipment activities	There is no requirement to register or apply for a licence in cases of negotiations or pre-shipment activities.

Some of the countries that S&T Daewoo does arms business with, according to Hong, are the Philippines, Indonesia, Nigeria and Colombia. His company is currently trying to include Pakistan on its client list for its K-4 grenade launcher, even though the country has tense relations with India over border conflicts.
There is no export ban in place on most of the firearms produced by S&T Daewoo.
Apart from small arms, South Korea exports ammunition, armored vehicles, training jets, gas masks and parts of U.S.-manufactured fighter planes such as F-15s, Korea’s primary fighter jet.
An official of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, speaking on condition of anonymity, said South Korea was trying to sell training jets such as the KT-1 to countries in South America.

There are about 87 companies involved in the arms industry in Korea. Each company has a monopoly on its product. The top five companies such as Samsung Techwin make up about half the industry’s total arms sales, but the top five exporters change in ranking each year.

In order to make the defense industry more competitive, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration is implementing a policy starting next year that will scrap the current monopoly held by each company, thus freeing up the market to greater competition.
South Korean companies aren’t shy about filling their coffers when opportunity knocks. The country was among the top 12 countries that supplied arms to Iraq despite UN sanctions, according to a report in October 2004 by Charles Duelfer, the special adviser to the director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction.

According to Duelfer’s report, Iraq was planning to integrate the notebooks into its air defense system and artillery fire control mechanism. However, Duelfer concluded, “There is no evidence to suggest that the South Korean government was complicit in the transfer of prohibited goods.”
The five companies that did business in Iraq were LG Innotech, Shinsung Company, Unimo Technology Company, Techmate Corporation and Armitel.
